Elements of success
Let's say that success as a writer requires some combination of the following three elements, in no particular order:
1. Talent
2. Work ethic
3. Luck
Which of these elements do you wish you had more of?
1. Talent
2. Work ethic

I wish I had more talent. Work ethic, I got, and there's an extent to which you can make your own luck (by placing yourself in the path of opportunity whenever possible). But more natural ability would be welcome.

Work ethic. I am terribly lazy.

Definitely #2
I get distracted too easily and goof off reading sports news online and blogs and--
oh.
I'll just get back to work, then.

work ethic. and/or not being neurotic? Could I get rid of that? Writing goes much slower when there's this long, seemingly mandatory stretch of time when you must violently hate the thing you were working on. Months, I am talking. Months of hatred. Ugh.

All three, actually. But if I had to pick just one, I'd prolly go with #2. I am one lazy bastardo.

I vote for luck, just cause no one did and it probably feels unloved.

Work ethic, dude, work ethic. I've had more luck than I genuinely deserve and I'm not sure I believe in talent. But I'm one lazy b*stard.

Cool!
Me, I'm going with work ethic. If I had better work ethic, I'd be writing more, and then I'd be putting myself in a better position to take advantage of luck and I could overwhelm lapses of talent in a flood of new words.

Work ethic for me. I have my moments, but it's not consistent. I want consistency.

It's interesting that so many of us, myself included, chose work ethic, which is something that, unlike luck and talent, is entirely within the control of each individual.

I want to say luck, but I do think you make a good bit of luck by working hard and opening yourself up to opportunity.
So yeah, I could always use more talent!
